We signed up to Read and Raise after an email to the school email caught my eye. It has been our most successful fundraiser to date and I would recommend it to any school who was thinking of doing it. It was a no- brainer for us. Not only were we raising money for our school, we were getting our pupils involved and having fun whilst improving literacy levels. We set up a fundraising committee with staff, members of the Parent’s Association and our Board of Management. Working together, we contacted a number of businesses who were so supportive to our cause. Our pupils logged their reading minutes daily while raising sponsorship at the same time. Darach, from Read and Raise was with us every step of the way. Their platform is very easy to use and the support pack that is given when you sign up is excellent.

Outside of the funds raised we found there were many benefits to the fundraiser it improved literacy levels especially among the boys, the children bought into logging reading minutes at home and looking for donations from family and friends. The business sponsorship tool on the site proved to be a great success for us we contacted as many businesses as we could think of in advance to take out a digital ad on our fundraiser. The fact that it was'nt just your usual school fundraiser and a literacy based initiative in the school it was very well received by all the businesses. I have got nothing but positive experiences to report from it all. We got great support from Read and Raise from start to finish. The support pack on your admin dashboard was a huge help it contained everything we could possibly have needed from parent information letters, how to register letters for parents, business sponsor letter template etc really and truly its just a case of dating them and sending them out. The suggested text messages to send to parents during the fundraiser were a great help. During the initiative we visited our local day care centre and did a shared reading session with all the men and women that attend there which was a great success. Overall a very very positive experience we are delighted with what we have raised and grateful to Read and Raise for all the support. For myself as a teaching principal it was one of those fundraisers that you could literally sign up to and let it run itself. I have recommend it numerous school already and we will certainly will be making it part of our future fundraising plans.

We used the Read and Raise platform It was very easy on us as a school there was no tickets to sell or sponsorship lines or anything like that. It was all very easy we could see hoe many minutes were logged everyday. We were able to invite local businesses to sponsor it by taking out a digital ad and donate via the link and upload their company logo so when anyone logged in they could see all the businesses at the bottom of the page which was a nice feature. The children really got into it trying to log as many reading sessions as they could. As well as being a fundraiser it was great to see the literacy levels of the children improve in the school and developed their interest in reading. I would definitely recommend it to other schools its definitely something we will look into doing again.

It was very easy from a teachers point of view to log in and add individual and group reading times during the day. All the children really enjoyed it and were very excited to come in every day and tell me how much they had read the evening before. It was very beneficial in getting the children excited about reading and into the habit of reading for pleasure. One of the main purposes of this readathon was for children to improve their fluency and literacy skills as well as to raise some much needed funds for our school. Darach and his team at Read and Raise were extremely helpful all we really had to do was keep sharing it on social media.
